Wayne Evans Youth Scholarship Winner: Ashley Ayres   The votes are in, and we had the absolute pleasure of surprising Ashley Ayres with the news that she is our 2025 Wayne Evans Youth Scholarship winner!   This Scholarship was established in 2016 in memory of the late Wayne Evans, former SBS Bank CEO. Wayne was a leader who challenged himself daily and continued to push beyond his comfort zone. This Scholarship aims to empower our Youth to push the boundaries every day and continue to develop their leadership potential.   Ashley, daughter to Charlene Lucking – Head of Distribution at SBS Insurance, is currently a year 12 student at Southland Girls High School. Ashley has chosen to use the Wayne Evans Youth Scholarship to attend the 21-day Mind, Body and Soul programme through Outward Bound.   We were incredibly impressed with the quality of Ashley’s application. Through her submission we got to know her as a person, her future goals and why the course would benefit her. Ashley also provided a wonderful character reference presentation from important people in her life highlighting just how much of a star she truly is.   We wish Ashley all the best on her big adventure at the end of this year and can’t wait to hear about her experience.

Our SBS Bank teams have enjoyed the gift of giving this festive period, as they've been getting behind charity groups doing amazing work in our communities as a way to help spread Christmas joy. Each SBS branch chose a local charity to donate to and support the important work they are doing to brighten up Christmas for those who may be doing it a little tough. The proceeds from our annual Head Office Christmas breakfast, cooked by the Executive Leadership team for SBS staff were also donated to Ronald McDonald House at Southland Hospital.

Mark has been our CEO for three years, and is leading us on an ambitious transformation programme, taking the 155-year legacy of our member-owned bank into the future. As we continue to grow, his vision has helped elevate SBS as a top choice for first-home buyers, not to mention his dedication to supporting community programmes and fostering a workplace culture of care and empowerment.
