It's been a special week for the team at SBS Bank as we celebrated the opening of the first stage of our head office redevelopment. This past year has been an incredible journey, partnering with several fantastic Southland organisations to transform our spiritual home at 51 Don Street into a vibrant, modern workspace for our brilliant SBS team members. This wasn't just about bricks and mortar; it was about creating a space designed by our teams for our teams, to encourage collaboration, creativity, and innovation. Our SBS Bank teams have enjoyed the gift of giving this festive period, as they've been getting behind charity groups doing amazing work in our communities as a way to help spread Christmas joy. Each SBS branch chose a local charity to donate to and support the important work they are doing to brighten up Christmas for those who may be doing it a little tough. The proceeds from our annual Head Office Christmas breakfast, cooked by the Executive Leadership team for SBS staff were also donated to Ronald McDonald House at Southland Hospital.

Congratulations are in order for our SBS Bank Group Chief Executive Mark McLean who was named leader of the year at the 2024 Cooperative Business New Zealand Awards last night. Mark has been our CEO for three years, and is leading us on an ambitious transformation programme, taking the 155-year legacy of our member-owned bank into the future. As we continue to grow, his vision has helped elevate SBS as a top choice for first-home buyers, not to mention his dedication to supporting community programmes and fostering a workplace culture of care and empowerment.
