Good afternoon// We have been made aware of a number of cold calls to banking customers across the industry, including SBS Members, claiming to be from their bank. We will never call you asking you for personal information or ask you to share bank-issued codes you receive. If you suspect you’ve been targeted by a scam, even if you’re not sure, please contact us immediately on 0800 727 2265 (you can double check this number by searching for SBS Bank and verifying this number on our website). Our Contact Centre is open 7 days a week, from 7am until 9pm on weekdays and from 10am until 4pm at weekends. Ways to help protect yourself:
- ALWAYS take the time to verify the person who has called you and NEVER disclose any information unless you’re 100% sure. Many scams start with a phone call from an individual impersonating an organisation. If you’re not sure, hang up and phone the organisation using the number you already have for them (not a new number the caller may provide). No reputable organisation will mind you taking the time to check up on them.
- ALWAYS update your devices regularly.
- ALWAYS make your passwords long, strong and unique.
- ALWAYS hang up and call the organisation directly if you are not sure whether a call is legitimate.
- NEVER share any bank-issued authorisation codes you receive - the bank will never ask for these.
- NEVER share personal or financial information with anyone you don’t know.
- NEVER share your login details, password or PIN with anyone, even a family member.
- NEVER click on links in suspicious emails or text messages.
