| How the Enhanced Scam Warnings work When you set up a payment, we may ask you:
- The purpose of the payment
- How the recipient gave you the account details
We’ll also give you a Scam Warning when you set up a new payee. The Enhanced Scam Warnings are simply designed to give you a moment to pause, reassess the payment from a new perspective, and consider what advice you might give a friend who was about to make that same payment. We know that 99 times out of 100 your payment will be perfectly normal. But it’s worth taking a quick double check to ensure you’re paying the right person for the right reason, just in case. To prepare for Enhanced Scam Warnings, update to the latest SBS Mobile app from 22 October. The feature will also be available automatically in Internet Banking from that date - no extra steps needed. What to do if you think something is suspicious
If you ever have any doubts about a payment, don’t send it. Let us know about it instead.
You can call our friendly contact centre team at 0800 727 2265 or use the new subject line ‘Report Fraud’ in the Internet Banking Secure Messages. Use this if you ever suspect a scam or any fraudulent activity on your account.
If you’re receiving this message on behalf of a child, and they make online payments or set up new payees, they’ll see Enhanced Scam Warnings too. Have a chat with them about what it means to help them understand the importance of being careful.
If you have any questions or need help updating your app, our team is here to help. Give them a call on 0800 727 2265 or send a secure message through internet banking. For any further information, please visit the Fraud and Scams page on our website.
Kind regards
